The Witch King of Angmar

Image
According to Tolkien, the Witch King of Angmar was one of the 9 Ring Wraiths or Nazgul.  Here he is, courtesy of Copplestone Castings, mounted on (an admittedly pint-sized) Fell Beast.   In the Hordes of the Things ruleset The Witch King would be an Aerial Hero costing 6 Army Points (the maximum unit cost).  The figure is painted in acrylics, gloss varnished, and mounted on a 2p piece. He comes as part of the Evil Characters set as per the Copplestone Castings webpage:

Saruman and the Fighting Uruk-Hai

Next up is Saruman the White and the first regiments of his Uruk-Hai - the cross-bred Orcs that Saruman raised in Isengard, bearing his 'White Hand' symbol.   In Hordes of the Things, Saruman would be a Magician at 4 AP with a combat factor of +4 but able to 'bespell' opponents.  The Uruk-Hai champion (another Hero element) I guess represents Lurtz, the character inserted by Peter Jackson into the LoTR films but not in the original Tolkien stories.

Isildur's Heir - Aragorn and Gondor Spearmen

Next up is Aragorn, Heir to Isildur as King of Gondor.  I've gone with a paint job as per the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings Trilogy and he's based on a 2p piece - shown in one of the photos for scale.   In the 'Horde of the Things' rules (Fantasy DBA), Aragorn would be a Hero element costing 4 Army Points (an army can have 24 AP in total, 12 of which can come from heroes/Gods/dragons etc) and whose combat factor would be +5 (second only to Gods, Paladins and Dragons on +6).  He's leading a regiment of Gondor Spearmen (+4 combat factor).

They've got a Cave Troll...

Next up from Copplestone are Trolls.  I based these three to each 80mm x 40mm base and painted one group with Sauron's 'Eye' shield device, the second with the White Hand of Isengard, and the last set with the original spiked shield.  10mm scale is great for larger monsters to go alongside the human sized infantry. War Trolls sporting the Eye of Sauron on their shields Trolls of Saruman - bearing the symbol of the White Hand of Isengard For scale alongside orcs With a 2p piece for another scale comparison
