Uruk-Hai Archers

Image
More Half-Orcs for Saruman's forces - this time Uruk-Hai Archers ('Shooters' in 'Hordes of the Things' rules) from Copplestone Castings 10mm range.

Dwarven Double-Handed Axemen

Image
Two units of Dwarven Double-Handed Axemen, painted with Royal Blue/Yellow and Indigo/Yellow shields.

Orc Wolf-Riders

Image
Next up are two units of Orc wolf or warg riders.  In the 'Hordes of the Things' rules they are classified as 'Beasts' ("including all packs of carnivores... with or without other beings accompanying them as huntsmen, riders or controllers... described by Tolkien as especially effective against knights or riders, whose mounts are vulnerable to belly attack").  The figures are the Copplestone Castings 10mm Orc Wolf-Riders, with one of the bases having a couple of extra figures from the 'Evil Characters' set.  They are based on 80 x 60mm bases, painted in acrylics and gloss varnished. With a 2p piece as a scale reference

Riders of Rohan - Horse Archers

Image
Next up, two elements of Rohirrim Horse Archers - 'Riders' in the 'Hordes of the Things' rules ("all lighter cavalry partially armed with missile weapons...").  Again the 10mm Copplestone figures are painted in acrylics, gloss varnished, and mounted on 80 x 60mm bases. With a 2p piece for scale

Frodo and Sam

Image
A couple of very small hobbits in 10mm scale - Frodo and Sam, from the Copplestone Castings 'Heroes and Halfings' set.  I've painted them inspired by the Peter Jackson films.   My photos aren't brilliant (especially at this magnification - Sam's face is approx 2mm from chin to hair) but the sculpting likeness especially to Sean Astin as Sam is pretty impressive. In the 'Hordes of the Things' game rules, this element is a 'Sneaker' ("all bands of infiltrators on foot, such as bearers of magic rings... They do not fight, but can penetrate or deceive enemy troops to capture a stronghold or attack a general unless precautions are taken.").   With a 2p piece for scale reference

Dwarven Sword and Axemen

Image
More 'Battle of the Five Armies' than 'Lord of the Rings', but I've been working through more elements of Dwarven infantry.  These are Sword and Axemen units ('Blades' in the 'Hordes of the Things' rules).
